Limericks

Some limerick first lines to choose from:

There once was a lady named Sue

There once was an ape in a zoo

There once was a Martian named Zed

Said a salty old sailor from Wales

The man on the moon gave a wink

When you have finished, tell me which words and phrases you have used to make your limerick interesting to your reader and why they make it interesting.

Bring me your book when you are done and we will publish your limerick on padlet.

We are going to turn A Taipan in my Frypan into a limerick.

Then we are going to edit this limerick to make it funny.

There once was a man from Sydney

Who liked to eat steak and kidney.

That silly old fellow from Sydney.

Today 6 Emerald learned about limericks.  We wrote our own limerick, and created some ideas for more limericks.

Mrs Emeleus created a Poetry Is Fun page for 6 Emerald students to write their ideas for poetry at home and share with the class next lesson.

  2. Perhaps you can use them to write some more of your own and post them here for me to read. Will anyone write one for graduation?
